DANCE: The Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre has put together Wintersong, a collection of dance pieces that celebrate the winter solstice. The troupe’s dancers are all under twenty-one years of age and are lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with some top choreographers. Themes for this year’s performance include the changing of the seasons, the poetry of William Butler Yeats, and Klezmer music. Fleck Dance Theatre, Harbourfront Centre (207 Queens Quay West), 8 p.m., $18 and $28.
THEATRE: The comic writers at Cow Over Moon have trans-gendered the lead character of Chicken Licken in their seasonal production (on throughout the weekend), but we hope the kids don’t take offence. The troupe’s contemporary take on the classic tale about mass hysteria sounds like a fun romp. Burnhamthorpe Library Theatre (1350 Burnhamthorpe Road East, Mississauga), 11 a.m., $12 ($8 children).
THEATRE: The highly rated Paranormal Show at Campbell House has added a seasonal treat to the final performances (tonight and tomorrow). Vladimir the host will finish off the evening with a special performance of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Campbell House Museum (160 Queen Street West), 9 p.m., $40.
BENEFIT: The audience may benefit as much as the Daily Bread Food Bank and the Stephen Lewis Foundation at The 13th Christmas show tonight (and tomorrow). There is an awesome line-up of the super-talented taking the stage and ringing in the season for two very good causes. Mia Sheard hosts the show, and guests include Colin Mochrie, Debra McGrath, Justin Rutledge, Oh Susanna, and more! Tickets are only available at the door, so get there early—the show usually sells out. Rivoli Tavern (334 Queen Street West), 9 p.m., $15.
