Urban Planner: December 14, 2008

SPORTS: It’s the last day to get your fill of chrome and leather at the Toronto Motorcycle Show. “Extreme” biker Jason Britton will be showing off and signing autographs, and stunt siblings Cody and Kyle Ives will be riding around inside a steel-cage globe. For some unknown reason, there is also a birds of prey exhibit. Metro Toronto Convention Centre, south building (222 Bremner Boulevard), 10 a.m.–5 p.m., $15.
MUSIC: Every Sunday between now and December 28, present and former members of Canadian Creative Music Collective—known more familiarly as CCMC—will be performing as part of a unique residency, with various combinations of band members each week. The music collective, which has spanned thirty-four years and included members such as Michael Snow and John Oswald, will nevertheless play as they always have: freely improvising in the moment. Somewhere There (340 Dufferin Street), 6–8 p.m., $6.
MUSIC: A giant posse of Toronto indie bands, including The Wilderness, Provincial Parks, and The Leonids, take the stage at Rancho Relaxo to Rock the Casbah. It’s not quite the anniversary of Joe Strummer’s untimely passing, but close enough—and any day is a good day for a Clash tribute in our books. Rancho Relaxo (300 College Street), 9 p.m., $7.
HOLIDAYS: The four stories of studio spaces at 401 Richmond have opened their doors for the annual Holiday Marketplace this weekend. Wandering minstrels and a chance to win a gift basket full of items from studio artists add to the fun. 401 Richmond Street, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., FREE.
MUSIC: Today’s Flipside Record Sale boasts more than three hundred thousand pieces of vinyl to choose from or to barter for. That number includes records in all sizes—45s, 12” singles, and full-length LPs. No word on the availability of 78s, but you never know… Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West), 10 a.m.–4 p.m., $4.
