WORDS: This Is Not A Reading Series launches Coach House Books‘ new water culture-infused anthology HTO: Toronto’s Water from Lake Iroquois to Lost Rivers to Low-Flow Toilets with a panel discussion featuring anthology contributors, followed by a choice of a walking tour of Fort York or refreshments and informal conversation with the panelists. Spacing’s Matt Blackett moderates the discussion, and contributing essayist David Robertson gives the tour afterwards. The Blue Barracks, Fort York (100 Garrison Road), 2–6 p.m., $5. (Free with book purchase.)
MUSIC: Vinyl aficionados might want to head to the Danforth for a spin around the Toronto Downtown Record Show. The bi-annual event offers collectors an opportunity to show off or sell off their wares to the right interested party. Estonian House Banquet Hall (958 Broadview Avenue) 11 a.m.–4 p.m., $5.
COMEDY: MuchMusic’s “Video On Trial”—an opportunity for local critics to slag those video artists who truly deserve it—reached its hundredth episode last week. To celebrate, hosts Sabrina Jalees, Trevor Boris, and Debra DiGiovanni will be performing an evening of stand-up comedy. They have invited some surprise guests to join them on stage, including previous “Video On Trial” jurors. The Panasonic Theatre (651 Yonge Street), 8 p.m., $26–$32.
ART: Sharpen your favourite medium and draw live nude models to raise funds for an upcoming calendar featuring the work of OCAD Drawing and Painting students. The annual Drawing Marathon is organized by faculty and everyone is welcome, especially if they’ve signed up some friends to sponsor them. Bring your own meal, though—it’s twelve hours of drawing. Ontario College of Art and Design, rooms 487 and 488 (100 McCaul Street), 12 p.m.–12 a.m., $25.
WORDS: Today and tomorrow mark the 70th anniversary of Krystallnacht, the nights of terror directed against the Jewish people of Germany and Poland, which launched the Holocaust. As part of Holocaust Education Week, Kathy Kacer will present her book The Diary of Laura’s Twin, and speak about the practise of contemporary Jewish children who are now “twinning” their bar or bat mitzvahs with the holocaust children who never got to reach their own. Na’amat (272 Codsell Avenue), 2:30 p.m., FREE.
