ART: Pattie Boyd inspired both George Harrison and Eric Clapton to write their best-known songs while she was a part of their lives. She will be sharing a number of photographs taken during that London period at the exhibit “Through the Eye of a Muse.” The exhibit (on until December 31) includes work that Boyd—now a member of the Royal Photographic Society—has done since that time. The Great Hall Gallery (1087 Queen Street West), 12–6 p.m., FREE.
FUN: For their final outdoor event of this year, Newmindspace are attempting an Icarian feat: to raise a string of lights higher than the CN Tower. They will need volunteers to help string together the LED lights and to keep the hot chocolate warm. Glow sticks and Newmindspace t-shirts will also be available. Pilots have been warned. University of Toronto Front Campus (15 King’s College Circle), 7–11 p.m., FREE.
FILM: Andrej Wajda’s Academy Award–nominated film Katyn plays at the European Film Festival tonight. The film follows the story of four Polish women waiting in vain for the return of their military husbands from Soviet-occupied Katyn forest at the start of World War II. Royal Cinema (608 College Street), 8:30 p.m., FREE.
ART: We’ve mentioned the previews already, but it’s time to put your money where your guess is. Today’s Whodunit? OCAD Mystery Art Sale consists of twelve hundred pieces of original art donated by students, staff, well-known artists, and outright celebrities, which are now available for purchase for $75. All works are a standard 5½ x 7½ inches, and the artist remains unknown until after the art is in hand. Sales go toward learning materials at the school. Ontario College of Art and Design (100 McCaul Street), 10 a.m.–4 p.m., FREE.
WORDS: Courageous exhibitionist poets who like to slam it may want to check out Toronto Poetry Slam’s third anniversary celebration. Dave Nichols, a member of the Black Pearl Poetry National Slam Team out of Columbus, Ohio, is a featured guest, and it wouldn’t be a slam party without a competition. Drake Hotel Underground (1150 Queen Street West), 7:30 p.m., $5.
