Urban Planner: August 14, 2008

FILM: Tonight at the Revue Cinema, join bands The Flatliners, The Wooden Sky, The Sinisters, Maximum RNR, and more for a tribute night to Canadian cult film Hard Core Logo. Following a screening of director Bruce McDonald’s cut of the film, McDonald will be doing a Q&A. There will also be appearances from secret special guests and prize giveaways of rare vinyl, t-shirts, and CDs. The event is presented by JUICEBOXdotcom‘s Sam Sutherland and Ashley Carter (former and current Torontoist contributors, respectively). The Revue Cinema (400 Roncesvalles Avenue), 7 p.m., $12; proceeds go to education initiatives at the Revue Cinema.
MUSIC: As part of the Summerworks’ Music Series, cuddly Toronto acoustic rock team The Rural Alberta Advantage is playing this evening at the Theatre Centre. Joining them is indie pop group Claire Jenkins Avec Band. Make sure you check out the rest of the Summerworks programme before the festival ends on Saturday! FILM: Independent filmmaker Jonathan Culp‘s latest venture, Grilled Cheese Sandwich, is having its Toronto premiere. The film follows three teenagers who escape their suburban Ontario lifestyles by joining a renegade Grilled Cheese Sandwich club. Chaos ensues? The screening features performances from Matias Rozenberg, Holzkopf, Just Like The Movies (featuring Chris Mills of Kids on TV), and The Suicide Pilots. Smiling Buddha, 7:30 p.m., FREE.
