Toronto List: July 17, 2008

20070717torontoolist.jpgMUSIC: It is highly recommended that you check out tonight’s EP release party for Toronto band We Take Lovers. The show is at Sneaky Dee’s, and features performances from friends and local favourites The Guest Bedroom and Femme Generation, as well as We Take Lovers themselves. DJ Rob spins in between sets. Sneaky Dee’s (451 College Street), doors at 9:00 p.m., $10 includes a copy of the EP, $6 does not.
KIDS: This afternoon at the Don Mills Library, local clothing designer Sarah Ottewell will be showing kids aged twelve and up how to turn their old t-shirts into new (and hopefully stylish) ones. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required either in person or by calling 416-395-5710. Bring a t-shirt! Don Mills Library (888 Lawrence Street East), 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., FREE.
FESTIVAL: From July 17–20, the Tirgan: Iranian Festival is happening as part of the World Routes Series at the Harbourfront Centre. The festival will explore Persian culture through music, dance, film, visual art, literature, décor, cuisine, and crafts. It is the largest Iranian festival ever produced in North America. Tonight, members of the Shayda Ensemble (a group of Iranian classical musicians) will be backing up Mohamed Reta Lotfi in a performance of Persian compositions old and new. Sirius Stage at the Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay West), 9:00 p.m., $25.
SALE: Today marks the start of a four-day summer sale being held at the Burrough’s Building on Queen Street West. The Shopping Addicts Hot Summer Sale is offering 50% to 70% off over 50 designer brands (including Lacoste, Seven for All Mankind, Loop NYC, and Paul Frank). Oh, and the first 50 people to spend more than $200 (before taxes) receive an eight-day vacation to a five-star resort in either Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. Too good to be true? Sort of: transportation and taxes for the trips are not included. Call 416-871-4431 for details. 639 Queen Street West (at Bathurst Street), open from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
