Toronto List: July 14, 2008

20080714todoplant.jpgMUSIC: It’s a slow night for music in Toronto, unless you’re a fan of some band called “Led Zeppelin.” If this is the case, you should head over to the Molson Amphitheatre, where singer Robert Plant will inevitably play mostly new songs with vocalist Alison Krauss, and Zeppelin fans will regret having paid the outlandish $40 to sit on the Amphitheatre’s lawn. With T Bone Burnett. Molson Amphitheatre (909 Lakeshore Road West), 7:30 p.m. $39.50–$99.50.

COMEDY:
Tonight at the Gladstone Hotel, check out monthly residency “The Last Comedy Show,” hosted by Toronto comedians Sara Hennessey and Mack Lawrenz. Performances by Bob Kerr, Inessa Frantowski, Greg Allsop, and Cole Osbourne, among others. Gladstone Hotel Art Bar (1214 Queen Street West), 9:00 p.m., FREE.
WORDS: It is definitely worth going to the Dream Stage in High Park tonight to check out this year’s Scream in High Park as part of The Scream Literary Festival. The evening includes performances from both renowned and upcoming Canadian writers like Carl Wilson, Wayde Compton, and David McFadden. A full list of performers/readers as well as directions to the stage can be found on the Festival’s website. Hosted by Misha Glouberman. Dream Stage, High Park, 7:00 p.m., PWYC ($10 suggested).
SPORTS: Ontario Place’s Toronto Sports Week kicks off today. Events and games will be hosted by the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto FC, and the Argos, among others. The Ontario Place website reads that you get to “experience the fun and excitement of being a pro athlete.” It is uncertain whether Ontario Place will be providing million dollar contracts to Toronto Sports Week participants. Until July 20. Included with admission to Ontario Place.
