This one is pretty self-explanatory. With the tagline “fuck bands, let’s spell,” Whippersnapper is holding Toronto’s first “Adult” Spelling Bee this Thursday, with all door proceeds (plus half the cash bar) going toward Parkdale Project Read.
So if you’re into contributing to a good cause by watching red-faced ego-crushery with a drink in hand, get involved. With over a dozen challengers, 250 words you probably won’t find in your Merriam-Webster’s (including lots of Toronto-centric stuff), and the promise of a cruel and hostile audience, it’s basically your perfect geeky Thursday night.
The event, co-organized by Josh Goodbaum and Jenna Mackay, will also feature “celebrity” judges, DJs (Tighten Up and Male Gayze), dancing, and prizes from all the cool-guy sponsors (Spacing, This Ain’t the Rosedale Library, Queen Video, Pages, etc.). It all goes down Thursday at the Whippersnapper Gallery. Doors at 9 p.m., spelling battles at 10. $5! Cheap!
