Populist: May 12–18
We publish a lot of articles on Torontoist, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. Populist is a weekly recap, appearing every Sunday night, that features some of the coolest, most interesting, most commented, and most recommended posts from our past week.

- Sarah Nicole Prickett critiqued the AGO’s impactive new logo (this week’s most recommended and commented-on article) and gave players a copy/paste template to apply to Keys to the VIP.
- Jonathan Goldsbie wrote about the TTC’s hunt for platform screen doors—and why they likely aren’t on the horizon. (A few days later, Spacing covered the same story and recieved a response from the TTC). Goldsbie also checked out Yonge and Lawrence’s lovely bike posts.
- Miles Storey featured another spectacular photo of our skyline shrouded in clouds.
- Marc Lostracco broke news of Astral’s finalized street furniture prototypes—some of them good, some not so good—and discovered a patch of colour stapled onto a street pole.
- Malcolm Davidson interviewed Shamez Amlani of Streets are for People!
- David Topping wrote about a Bell ad taking aim at Rogers, and ambivalently announced the hunt for Canada’s Miley Cyrus.
- Stephen Johns wants David Beckham.
- Karen Whaley covered the announcement that Ramona Flowers would be played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Winstead’s illustrious acting credentials include a role in Final Destination 3, The Ring Two, and three episodes of Passions. But she is also pretty.
- Readers’ favourite photo of the past week (by recommends) was Monday’s photo of some short-lived graffiti on Queen West, by deutschmarco.
- In columns this week, there were new editions of Great Torontoist Challenge (Toronto FC food); Snappy Answers (pseudo-gays and Scranton BFs); Historicist (Superman!!); Lights, Camera, Spin (A1A Laundromat); Vandalist (doe, a deer, a pasted deer); Vintage Toronto Ads (O’Keefe’s Ginger Ale); Povertyville (husbands); Portrait Project (babas); Illustration Sunday (fireworks); and Tourist (Amsterdam and Cape Verde ).
