Addicts Anonymous

Do you pore over missed connections as you pour your daily cup of joe? Consider Craigslists classifieds more essential literature than the New York Times Bestsellers list? Better still, are you in search of that elusive, mysterious character from the subway for whom you’ve professed your love for, time and time again? This week, those who still believe in love at first sight are welcome to shop for lovers and books, and perhaps make some missed connections from the past.
Missed Connections Addicts Anonymous is holding their first-ever meeting at the World’s Biggest Bookstore this Tuesday evening. The funny thing about the meeting is that it doesn’t necessarily involve “meeting” anyone at all. In true missed connections fashion, participants are invited to come to the store, and gaze upon the other (hopefully) single contestants. Once they’ve set their sights on one lucky man or woman, note-taking is encouraged—”tall and beautiful” won’t be enough to tip off the person in question. Details count: hair colour, height, their location in the store, and perhaps a description of the wild cheetah-and-zebra print shoes she (or he) was wearing. But onlookers beware: no-one else in the store is aware of the meeting. Some may just be innocent book-buyers.
After their true blind date, hopefuls can head home and post their message of undying attraction via Craigslist, and await an onslaught of replies. We’d be flattered to hear some success stories. We might be hanging out in the romance section Tuesday night—but you just wont know ’till Wednesday morning.
