Wisecracking, Opera Singing, and Craft Making For Kids

2008_04_10bunch.jpgFor family fun, you can’t beat the sheer adorableness of kids wise-cracking from an open mic. That’ll be just one of the activities happening this weekend for kids in the latest edition of the always amazing Bunch Family Salon. Adam Growe, a headlining comedian and father of three, will be on hand to mentor the aspiring comics, in keeping with the annual event’s goal of bringing major players from the local arts community—last year’s special guests included Broken Social Scene’s Jason Collett and Kevin Drew among others—together with the city’s kidtelligentsia (and their parents) for tons of eclectic and creative fun.
The posh Arts and Letters Club (14 Elm Street) breaks its no-kids rule once a year for the popular event so each room can host different hands-on activities. In addition to the comedy club, activities will include designing and building a salon-sized city out of recycled materials, opera lessons under the tutelage of the Canadian Opera Company, new animated films from the National Film Board, and a combination yoga/art workshop. The Bunch Family also promises guerrilla performances by opera singers, indie bands, and beatboxers popping up unexpectedly throughout the day. Everyone’s free to wander according to their own interest and inspiration or, if you’re the parent, wherever your child’s exhilaration leads.
It all goes down this Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 for kids and $25 for their parental counterparts, and must be purchased in advance from the Bunch Family.
