Woodhands has already put on their party hats, and they’ve got reasons a-plenty to celebrate—today’s CD release, a recent Eye Weekly cover, being named one of five top acts to watch in 2008 by Exclaim!, and all this success without suffering a single splinter. But now, the electro-pop duo is preparing to dance your party pants off in just the right way—in one enchanted night at Wrongbar.
This Thursday, the Toronto-based, two-headed dance machine releases their new full-length record, on the Paper Bag label, in a “Magical Night with Woodhands.” And though today’s release is entitled Heart Attack, don’t worry: attending won’t endanger your health. With their own set and a post-set dance party, your heart can only reap the benefits of a frantic, dance-induced cardiovascular workout. And if that’s not your bag, Woodhands has pulled something else out of their mysterious bag of tricks—they promise wandering magicians at their release party.
Woodhands scratches from scratch, leaving laptops behind and passing up on pre-recorded samples, the Keytar Heroes of the next generation. And while you can hear all ten tracks of today’s release for yourself on their MySpace, David Topping, Torontoist editor and longtime Woodhands fan, has a few words on the woodsmiths’ work:
“Woodhands didn’t seem like the kind of band that would be able to translate their heavy, thumping, danceable live sound to a recorded album. And while not everything on Heart Attack is fantastic, the stuff that is—like ‘Under Attack,’ ‘Be Back Soon,’ and ‘Dancer’—is pretty amazing stuff, the kind of songs you have to tell people about once you hear them.”
You can put your hands (and feet) together for Woodhands this Thursday for five bucks before they head out on tour.
