The Rump Shaker: April 10–16
Since its opening last October, Wrongbar has been a blessing to the Parkdale area. This Friday, it’ll be hosting the second edition of the Stone’s Throw Move Toronto party. The respected California indie hip hop and funk label will be sending off one of its biggest stars as Madlib spins a set. One half of Madvillian and Jaylib, Madlib also releases records under his Quasimoto guise. He will be joined by label mates Egon and Jamie Strong.
After spending most of last year touring, Thunderheist will be kicking off their first hometown show of the year on Friday. The electro-rap duo are known for their sexy jams and will most likely be releasing their debut album later on this year. They’ve been getting write-ups everywhere including Urb, in which frontwoman Isis says, “We make a very strong effort that when you come to the show, someone’s getting pregnant.” Whether or not that will entice you or unnerve you, Thunderheist will be joined on the Lee’s Palace stage by Bonjay and vitaminsforyou.
The Never Forgive Action crew are celebrating the one year anniversary of their popular Hip Hop Karaoke with some massive juice. Masta Ace of Marley Marl’s pioneering Juice Crew will be hosting and performing at Thursday’s anniversary. Unlike other old school MCs, Masta Ace is still releasing acclaimed records and is a respected live act. For bedroom MCs in the city, this is a great opportunity to see a living legend kicking back.
