Populist: March 31–April 6
We publish a lot of articles on Torontoist, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. Populist is a weekly recap, appearing every Sunday night, that features some of the coolest, most interesting, most commented, and most recommended posts from our past week.

- In very important site news that was definitely not a joke, David Topping announced Torontoist’s new co-editor (this week’s most commented-on post). By popular demand, here are a few more photos of our new co-editor. David also gave props to The Varsity for a great bit of a satire, which our very important site announcement was most certainly not, thank you very much.
- Jamie Bradburn wrote about a vending machine all by its lonesome in Swansea Plaza (this week’s most recommended post). It looks pretty sad, but just wait until you get that sweet skull ring.
- Jonathan Goldsbie provided some much-needed context behind Rob Ford and John Barber’s confrontation. Mouthing the words “you fat fuck” at a temperamental interview subject may not be that good of an interview technique, as it turns out.
- John Beebe visited Don Taylor’s bookbinding studio.
- Jaime Woo took a look at the new minimum wage, sketching a picture that actually isn’t all that unpretty.
- Val Dodge wrote about a street pole being used as an announcement board, and the city’s disappointing bike lane plan in the event of a TTC strike.
- Kasandra Bracken wrote about the abundance of TTC missed connections. One day Torontoist will serve as the forum for love…one day…
- You know what the midwest is? Young and restless. That’s why Kanye West maybe likes Toronto, sort of! So says Maneesh Mohindra.
- Readers’ favourite photo of the past week (by recommends) was Monday’s photo of a big pig serving as a Crest ad, by handheld heartbeats.
- In columns this week, there were new editions of Wild Toronto (the ring-billed gull), Great Torontoist Challenge (croissants), Vandalist (bears!), Vintage Toronto Ads (Q107), Portrait Project (Convocation Hall ushers), Illustration Sunday (the Graphic Arts Building), and Snappy Answers (spring).
