Musicologist: April 7–13

2008_04_07bonjay.jpgThis week’s listings offer quite the myriad of options for all you concert-goers, from Nada Surf at the Opera House this evening to the Music Gallery‘s fundraiser with Swedish sweetheart Jens Lekman, Final Fantasy, and Katie Stelmanis tomorrow at the Great Hall. Wednesday, April 9 offers both The Dodos at El Mocambo and a sold-out New Pornographers/Okkervil River show at the Phoenix. Pas Chic Chic (a French side project from members of Godspeed! You Black Emperor) play at the Drake on Thursday, April 10. And on Friday, April 11, Madlib plays Wrongbar and Thunderheist, Bonjay, and Vitamins for You play Lee’s Palace—a lineup almost as good as last year’s Thunderheist and Bonjay NXNE showcase alongside Lesbians on Ecstasy and Yo Majesty.
In true Torontoist form, Musicologist has been keeping a close eye on any Radiohead concert announcements. Pitchfork announced this week that the (soon to be set) North American tour dates for August will be opened by art-folk quintet Grizzly Bear. The Brooklyn-based group has been granted handfuls of glossy opportunities as of late, including the opportunity to participate in Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Love in Hard Times: The Music of Paul Simon, a concert series that will help to recreate the classic Paul Simon albums alongside the musical icon himself. But opening for Radiohead on this much-anticipated (and perhaps, last) post-In Rainbows tour is probably the most star-studded item on the band’s artistic resume—and it’s, well, really exciting!
