Populist: February 25–March 2
We publish a lot of articles on Torontoist, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. Populist is a weekly recap, appearing every Sunday night, that features some of the coolest, most interesting, most commented, and most recommended posts from our past week.

- Sarah Nicole Prickett covered the dramatic unveiling of Obay’s second phase by Colleges Ontario. Please, advertisers, give us another, like, six months before you drop any other mystery ads.
- Kevin Plummer wrote about OHIP woes, framed by musician Owen Pallett’s recent problems (an issue that received a helping hand from two MPPs later in the week).
- David Topping wrote about the messy future of the McLaughlin Planetarium, complemented by Tony Makepeace’s Panoramaist of the building’s interior a day prior.
- Jonathan Goldsbie made one heck of a rare discovery: funny, non-racist graffiti in a U of T washroom.
- Marc Lostracco wrote about how we are dirty dirty dirty and how the Tories will finally make us clean, thanks to their potential new ability to deny tax cuts to “offensive” or “immoral” entertainment. And who knows what’s immoral better than the Tories do?
- Christopher Bird made fun of Rob Ford’s latest bad idea in a long line of bad ideas: renaming every new street in the city after deceased Canadian soldiers (this week’s most commented-on post).
- Karen Whaley wrote about a new projection on the bottom of the Gardiner that is really––sincere apologies––making waves.
- Patrick Metzger followed Bay followed Bay followed Bay down down down till he saw all their dreams—they say that guy ya know he act too tough tough tough.
- Miles Storey photographed the excitement that is Icefest.
- In columns this week, there were new editions of Wild Toronto (Monarchs!—this week’s most recommended post), Vandalist (pretty faces), Snappy Answers (coffee), Campaign Confidential (political relationships), Vintage Toronto Ads (Muskoka), Reel Toronto (Undercover Brother), Portrait Project (Duke’s Cycle), and Illustration Sunday (spring).
- Readers’ favourite photo of the past week (by recommends) was Monday’s photo of a man looking out at the aftermath of the Queen West Fire, by pdphotography.
