The Rump Shaker: February 14–20

2008_02_14rumpshaker.jpgIf you’re looking for some place to take your special someone dancing, nothing screams Valentine’s Day like Andrew W.K. The man who is dedicated to partying hard will be performing his live show and a DJ set at the Sound Academy this Thursday. His set kicks off a weekend that is busier than usual due to the new Family Day long weekend.
Every holiday has their own set of unique traditions and clubs are working hard to turn Family Day into a time for dancing. The Guvernment is hosting Family on Sunday, which is being headlined by Sharam, one half of Deep Dish. The packed party will also include dirty electro group Guns N Bombs, and local favourites like Nasty Nav, Sydney Blu, and Vinyl Junkies. For those with the stamina, the Comfort Zone will be hosting their massive Come Get Your Fcuk’in Beats party on Monday morning.
For all those closet DJs waiting for their chance to shine, Tiger Bar has the party for you. What started as an experiment has become the monthly party Everyone’s a DJ. This Saturday, 16 DJs including former Torontoist staffer Carly Beath (aka. Carly’s OK) will be playing 20 minute sets. The DJs will range in experience and the best part is if you don’t like a DJ, it’s just a couple of smoke breaks until the next one comes on.
