Musicologist: February 11–17

2008_02_11lullabyearkestra1.jpgThis week, Musicologist is pleased to share that Wavelength will be hosting a festival celebrating their anniversary. The weekly music series has come a long way since its inception in 1999 and has seen various bookers, venues, and, of course, musicians contribute to the success of the series. Wavelength commits to showcasing great music at an accessible cost (all shows are pay-what-you-can) and most recently, has made a vow to feature diversity in the selected genres and performers. All of these elements are reflected in this year’s ambitious festival.
The first installation of the festival begins at the Music Gallery on Thursday, February 14, and features Bruce Peninsula; Huckleberry Friends; and an aleatoric performance of In C, a musical piece originally composed by Terry Riley. Having seen Bruce Peninsula at the Music Gallery before, Musicologist can attest to how gorgeous the band sounds at this venue—this show will be fantastic. A very exciting bill Friday evening will feature Glissandro 70, Bocce, Daniel Nebiat, Sister Suvi, and Abdominal at the Gladstone. Saturday evening’s show will take place at The Theatre Centre with Lullabye Arkestra (no stranger to Wavelength festivals in the past), DD/MM/YYYY, Dance Electric, Telefauna, and Femme Generation. And wrapping up the festival at resident venue Sneaky Dee’s Sunday evening will be Opopo, Green Go, Transsylvanien, Donne Roberts, and Nifty.
With the shows all set at a pay-what-you-can price, Musicologist recommends splurging and going to all—with bands like Lullaby Arkestra, DD/MM/YYYY, Nifty, Glissandro 70, Abdonimal, and Bruce Peninsula, you can’t go wrong with any of the shows available.
