Populist: January 14–20
We publish a lot of articles on Torontoist, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. Populist is a weekly recap, appearing every Sunday night, that features some of the coolest, most interesting, most commented, and most recommended posts from our past week.

- This week was a busy one for new features: Posterchild launched Vandalist, a column to showcase street art and graffiti from around Toronto; Sarah Nicole Prickett launched Snappy Answers, wherein an all-knowing Torontoist staff member (Sarah Nicole Prickett) will answer readers’ questions; and Sarah Lazarovic launched the Portrait Project, featuring a new portrait of a Torontonian every week.
- David Topping featured Posterchild’s latest pieces––fake information fliers on the TTC (an article later plagiarized in The Sun), and wrote about how John O’Keefe’s shooting has transformed the Brass Rail and the city.
- Sarah Nicole Prickett fashioned fantastic Craigslist missed connection posts for different areas of Toronto. (this week’s most recommended post).
- Jonathan Goldsbie covered the TTC and U of T’s U-Pass meeting. If implemented, the U-Pass would cost all U of T students $60, would not be opt-outable, but––fortunately––can be eaten as a balanced, hearty meal at the end of each month.
- Karen Whaley wrote about a confrontation between a bicyclist and motorist that had a truly spectacular ending: non-violence!
- Marc Lostracco covered the unveiling of potential designs for the Jarvis Street slip. We want crazy animatronic arms!
- Miles Storey had some spectacular photos of a procession marking the Mourning of Muharram.
- Ken Hunt wrote about Naked News’s expansion, a serious news event with no possible humour in it.
- Readers’ favourite photo of the past week (by recommends) was Thursday’s apocalyptic beach shot, taken by uwajedi.
