Populist: December 17–23
We publish a lot of articles on Torontoist, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. Populist is a weekly recap, appearing every Sunday night, that features some of the coolest, most interesting, most commented, and most recommended posts from our past week.

- Mathew Kumar bid farewell to NOW‘s John Harkness (this week’s most recommended post).
- Erinn Cunningham considered the city’s priorities for snow clearing. Sure, cars are given precedence over pedestrians, but won’t anyone think of the poor people who own motorized scooters? Where is their justice? (Aside from our There Will Be Blood giveaway, this week’s most commented-on post.)
- Rosemary Mosco kicked off Wild Toronto, a lovely new comic strip about the city’s creatures.
- David Fleischer checked out the Lindsay family’s glorious holiday lights show (with an assist from Matthew Katz), and, in the latest edition of Reel Toronto, explored X-Men‘s enormous debt to pretty much every place in Toronto that they were allowed to film at.
- Maneesh Mohindra wrote about some circus thing that we simply don’t have time to audition for, but could totally ace if we wanted.
- David Topping looked at Rogers’ deceitful advertising for a cellphone that can’t actually hold 10,000 songs (unless you really, really like thirty second-long TV theme songs), and wrote about TAXI’s 15 Below jacket, a sure sign that Toronto will soon host the most stylish homeless people in Canada––which, really, is a step in the right direction.
- Miles Storey caught Museum Station in mid-development. The station will be either the most spectacular TTC station, or the most gaudy. Maybe a little bit of both.
- Jonathan Goldsbie discovered that the Dubaiins are onto our snow-capped ways.
- Val Dodge celebrated the little things: concrete and snowshoes. Try the two together for a delightful surprise!
- Jaime Woo chronicled the slightly awkward plight of fireman/fireman calendar model Drew Foote.
- Adam Miller explored Beverly and Baldwin in the latest edition of A City Intersected.
- Readers’ favourite photo of the week (by recommends) was Tuesday’s black and white shot of a woman passing through the snow, taken by Lepagejp.
