Populist: December 2–9
We publish a lot of articles on Torontoist, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. Populist is a weekly recap, appearing every Sunday night, that features some of the coolest, most interesting, most commented, and most recommended posts from our past week.

- Marc Lostracco wrote about super-neat guerilla historical plaques commemorating YouTube minutiae.
- Maneesh Mohindra wrote about a dad selling his 15-year-old son’s copy of Guitar Hero on eBay––punishment for smoking weed in his backyard and a great way to announce “I’m a bad parent” to the internet (this week’s most commented-on article).
- Amanda Buckiewicz wants to keep your money safe (tied for this week’s most recommended post). Changing your pin number from “1234” is probably a good start.
- Ashley Carter wrote about Posterchild’s two latest exploits: newly-boppable and reusable questions boxes, and a Thorarinn Ingi Jonsson stencil!
- Kevin Plummer remembered remembered the 4th through 7th of December, with an article about the 1837 rebellion just in time for its 170th anniversary.
- David Fleischer wrote the latest edition of Reel Toronto about the musicals that have attempted to disguise our fair city, including one––Chicago––whose whole damn name is a lie.
- Roxanne Bielskis continued Povertyville with an unfortunate McDonalds encounter (tied for this week’s most recommended post). See also: plot synopsis by the talented Robin Rix.
- Ken Hunt wrote about MizPee, a way to find locations to pee for free near you that will be extremely useful to those select few upper-lower-lower-class homeless people who own cell phones.
- Beth Bohnert discovered an unfortunate Onion slip-up. We blame Editor Emeritus T. Herman Zweibel’s continuing struggle with mastering the on-line inter-net!
- Jonathan Goldsbie wrote about the good and bad in Luminato’s new lineup.
- Val Dodge investigated the fate of the David Dunlap Observatory, which is pretty much totally uncertain––unless everyone leaves Richmond Hill, which is maybe possible.
- Chris Tindal covered the Bali United Nations Climate Change Conference, or “BUNCCC.” Apparently this “global warming” thing is somewhat important! Who knew?
- Readers’ favourite photo of the week (by recommends) was Friday’s shot of a distinctively Torontonian kind of love (plus some phallic action thrown in there), taken by sillylittlethingsyoulaughabout. Awww.
