So, things are rapidly going to hell in Pakistan. Somewhere between one and two thousand people have been “detained” (i.e., dragged away) since Saturday and all private television stations shut down and the country is about ninety percent of the way to pure chaos, which, given that they have nuclear weapons, is bad. Of course, the White House managed to find the good in the situation, namely that Iraq could be as bad as Pakistan.
Elsewhere in “Bad News From The Middle East,” the U.S. ramps up its rhetoric on Iran. Which is most certainly a grand idea that will go absolutely swimmingly, and I’m sure nobody will mind when oil prices go to $150 a barrel.
Radioactive waste showing up in Canadian landfills. Man, the news today just keeps getting better and better, don’t it? Most of the alarms are triggered by small amounts of medical, low-level radioactive waste. Most of them. Well, that makes Torontoist feel better!
Hollywood writers officially on strike. A whole lot of popular TV shows will feel the pinch pretty quickly, but rest assured they’ll just stop airing Heroes rather than have the producers’ nephew Bunky write it.
Controversial Croatian rocker performs outside of Brampton. Marko Perkovic, if you did not know (and Torontoist did not) has a reputation for glorifying fascism, anti-Serbianism and anti-Semitism with his lyrics. On the bright side, when he flings the horns during his guitar solo, it totally rocks out, dude.
And on the bright side, at least the Leafs won.
