Musicologist: September 24–30
Photo of Smoosh by absolutwade.
This week, Musicologist is a bit biased since we’ve been helping organize Ladyfest, taking place this weekend. Even if we weren’t, we’d still recommend it. But this week we’d also suggest heading to the El Mocambo tonight to check out Donkey Punch, if you’re not an indie rock snob and like classic rock/blues-influenced songs and catchy, catchy melodies. It’s free, so you don’t have anything to lose.
Ulrich Schnauss and Madrid at the Rivoli on Wednesday is a good bet for those of you who love dreamy electronic music. The Bloc Party show on Friday (now moved to The Docks) is another good choice—not just for the headliners, but for openers Smoosh. Yes, they’re teenaged sisters who started their band at an incredibly young age, but no, it’s not a gimmick. We saw them two and a half years ago and were jealous because they had amazing songs and the drummer played better than us, even though we were twice her age.
If none of those appeal to you, check out the complete listings after the fold.
