Stubborn Mike, Park Your Bike, Monsters We Like
The soldier killed Wednesday in Afghanistan has been confirmed as Master Cpl. Darrell Jason Priede. The 30-year-old grew up in Burlington, Ont. but lived in Grand Forks, B.C. until he left for Afghanistan a month ago. He was killed along with six others when a rocket flew into their Chinook helicopter.
The Ipperwash Inquiry was released yesterday. Commissioner Sidney Linden says that he believes that both federal and provincial governments were responsible as well as the OPP. He found that Mike Harris “did not give instructions to or interfere with the OPP’s operations at Ipperwash” where Dudley George was shot and killed in 1995. Linden did say, however, that he thinks that Harris was lying when he denied saying “I want those fucking Indians out of the park.” In typical Mike Harris action, he only listened to the part of the inquiry that says he’s not entirely to blame, and that’s good enough for him.
The city of Toronto will be doubling the amount of bike lockers over the next four years. More than 90 bike lockers are expected to go up in 2007, with many going around transit stops. Now 90 more people can park their bikes at $10 per locker, while the thousands of bicycle posts that were damaged last year remain a glaring problem.
Man has video of what appears to be the Loch Ness Monster. The video, which was aired on BBC Scotland shows a “jet black thing” about 45 feet long moving at about 6 mph. Some experts say it’s just an otter. No word yet on how much whiskey you have to drink in order to think an otter is an infamous monster.
Blue Jays win! Last night’s 2-0 win over the Chicago White Sox marks Roy Halladay’s 100th career win. It’s even more impressive in that 19 days ago he was having surgery to remove his appendix. Next thing you know these guys are going to be catching fly balls in their teeth and running bases blindfolded.
