East End Art

2007_05_16mcinally.jpgThe West End has its share of arts events in the upcoming months but what’s happening in the East?
The Riverdale Art Walk will feature art from over 100 artists on June 2 and 3 in galleries, shops and parks of the Riverdale and Leslieville areas. This juried arts exhibition is organized by the Artists’ Network of Riverdale along with businesses, friends and neighbours of the local community. Get involved with the event by volunteering to help make the art walk an superrific success.
Even farther East is the 23rd annual Beaches Arts & Crafts Show. This weekend of art will take place June 9 and 10 at Kew Gardens Park. It shall be beachy keen!
For artsters, craftsters and filmers there’s still time to get your act together to participate in the Cabbagetown Festival. Aside from art, this weekend of festivities will include everything from a 3 km mini-marathon to a big city barn dance! The lovely Cabbagetown Art and Crafts Sale will bring arty goods to Riverdale Park for a wonderful outdoor, juried event. The submission deadline is June 1 and the cost to participate is $270. A portion of the fee will fund advertising for the event while the remainder will be donated to BarnyardArts, a Cabbagetown-based nonprofit that offers arts & crafts courses and sponsors local art shows. To participate in the Cabbagetown Short Film & Video Festival, submit a mini motion picture by July 31 along with zero dollars and zero cents. The Cabbagetown Festival won’t happen until September 7–9 but 2007 is the year of planning ahead.
