The Daily Photoist: Highway Overpass
Each weekday morning, we pick a recent image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It’s our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!
Today’s photo by DanielN is a reminder of the season we’re leaving behind, and we love its dingy, cinematic feel. It reminds us of a post-apocalyptic sci-fi flick featuring utilitarian travelways and brutalist architecture or of the checkered cladding of a battered Lucasfilm spacecraft. The shot is also strangely beautiful in its graceful, poured concrete swoop; certainly more appealing from this angle than from the road deck (it kills us to say that a highway might look beautiful, by the way). It’s easy to imagine what this field would have looked like before urban sprawl enabled these structures to rise.
