Show some Cheek, Toronto!

2006_11_27_TomCheek.jpgIf you grew up in this town, or anywhere within shouting distance, there’s a good chance that you can’t think of your Toronto Blue Jays without thinking of Tom & Jerry.
If there is anyone associated with the Jays organization deserving of a Hall of Fame plaque, it’s gotta be Tom Cheek. A gentleman by all accounts, he announced 4,303 straight games – starting with the Jays’ first in 1977 – and didn’t stop until his father passed away in 2004. He returned, but soon after got cancer and stepped down. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 66.
This year the Baseball Hall of Fame will be inducting three broadcasters – voted by you – for the Frick Award. All you have to do is click on this link and then click Frick Award Voting. You can vote once a day until the end of this month.
