iPod Turns 5, Bay Street and Hipsters Unite In Celebration

Years and years into the ridiculously on-going debate over the legalities and moral issues surrounding mp3s, an anniversary is taking place this week: the iPod turns five.
While the Walkman had two types of users- those who sought “escape” and those who sought “enhancement”- iPod users have been seen to use the mp3-player for both needs, concurrently. (Ain’t that the truth, Toronto?) But Slate Magazine isn’t convinced that Apple’s gizmo is all that revolutionary. The article raises some good points, but you can’t deny the near-fetishistic place in our culture that the iPod has dug itself. I mean, c’mon- the Walkman never had its own night on Queen Street.
Anyway, there’s no denying that we’ve come a long way since the stereobelt.
