Yo, 411 on the TPL

Back in the day, kids used to tell their parents that they’d be at the library studying when actually they were going to go spray paint “AC/DC Rules” on the wall of their high school or sit in a parking lot and smoke controlled substances. It’s harder to get away with that nowadays, of course, because the folks know that you can download all the misinformation in the world off the internet, so why bother leaving the house? However, now there’s a tool designed to make teen lies more plausible.
Greg Smith has built a cool Google maps mashup of all the branches of the Toronto Public Library, with the name and location of each branch, directions finder, and whether it’s a district, branch, or reference library (there is a pecking order in the library world, although it’s kind of sad). There’s even a little picture so you can be sure you found the right place.
Imagine, no more stammering excuses when Mom asks which library you were studying at. “I was at the Lillian H. Smith District Library, at 239 College St. It’s a white building with a big round door frame.”
Torontoist also recommends the site for finding a place to return those books you’ve had under the bed for 5 years and are too embarrassed to bring back to your local branch.
