2006_09_01ohbijou.jpgOhbijou FAQ:
What is Ohbijou? Isn’t Ohbijou the name of my Aunt’s chihuahua?
Ohbijou is a local band whose music has wonderful orchestration. Members of Ohbijou would describe their music as “orchestrestral softpop/rock/bebop/R‘nB/bluegrass/andmore.” It’s a genre of its own that doesn’t include the sounds of bagpipe.
Who is Ohbijou?
Ohbijou consists of talented musicians: Casey Mecija (lead vocals, guitar), Jenny Mecija (backup vocals, violin), Jamie Bunton (drums), Ryan Carley (keys), Anissa Hart (cello), and Heather Kirby (bass).
Why is today a special day for Ohbijou?
Their CD release party is tonight at the Drake (1150 Queen W).
How much is the cover charge?
$6. Cheap.
Does the CD have a name? How much money do I have to dish out to get a copy of the disc?
The CD is named Swift Feet for Troubling Times. It costs $12. Cheap.

Are there opening bands for tonight’s performance?
Yes. The Phonemes and The Acorn.
Are there going to be DJs too?
Yes. Indeed. DJ Irish Heat (Leon Taheny, who worked on the Final Fantasy records) and DJ Great White Hype (Sebastian Grainger, from now defunct Death From Above 1979) will be DJing as DJs do.
Will there be artiness at the show?
Yes. Indeed. Winston Hacking is in charge of projection. Kimberly England is the leader of decorations and et cetera.
Are the band members excited?
Yes. Indeed. They’re so excited that they’ll be dressing up in exciting, surprise apparel for tonight’s event. Excitement will also come in the form of balloons and faux-golden rice shakers.
What do the band members think of Soundscapes (the record store)?
The band members love Soundscapes (572 College St). Soundscapes loves Ohbijou. Watch out for the upcoming Ohbijou window display at Soundscapes. It will be lovely, especially because of the band’s art director, Kimberly England, who is a talented artster and crafster.
What is the latest news?
Ohbijou will be opening the mainstage at the Virgin Music Festival. Sep. 9 on the Island.
