Well, that was short-lived. ABC has announced that there will be no more episodes of The One: Making A Music Star. The website states, “There are no plans for additional episodes. Thanks to all who participated in and supported The One!”
This doesn’t really come as much of a surprise, since the show has been plagued with issues since before it even aired, beginning with CBC viewers causing an uproar over pre-empting The National one hour in favour of airing The One. Reality overkill doesn’t help much, either, with Rockstar: Supernova, American Idol, Canadian Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, America’s Got Talent, etc. (the list could go on forever) saturating the airwaves. Not to mention that aside from George Stroumboulopoulos, the show was quite poorly produced.
Torontoist is secretly happy that the show didn’t turn into a monster, because even though Strombo says he wouldn’t jump ship to work in the U.S. full-time, at least this will help keep him in our fair country longer. Sorry George, we want to see you succeed, but love you too much to have America take you from our clutches.
No news yet as to whether the Canadian version of The One will still air or be cancelled, as well.
