Break out the earplugs and prepare to get very little sleep over the next few days, as the North by Northeast Music Festival and Conference begins tomorrow. Your wristband ($28.00) gets you into approximately 400 shows at 33 venues, all film screenings from the film festival portion, as well as the closing party Sunday night at the El Mocambo. Bargain!
Highlights of the festival include performances at the Phoenix by Television (Fri. June 9th, 6pm) and the legendary Buzzcocks (Sat. June 10th, 6pm), which unfortunately are an additional cost to the wristband. Other hot artists will be Amy Millan (of Montreal’s Stars), playing at the Reverb on Friday night and at the Mod Club on Saturday night, and a Torontoist favourite Clothes Make The Man (pictured above), who’ve been getting great reviews on their debut record, will be playing at the El Mocambo Saturday night.
So many shows, so little time, and even less space to cover it all. Make sure you check out the full listing over at the NXNE headquarters so you don’t miss out on any of the other talent. Torontoist hopes to see you out this weekend supporting the local music!
Oh, and feel free to let us know what shows you think are worth checking out…we just might check them out with you.
