Boyfriend Charged in Ryerson Murder, Homeless Advocates Take Fight to Jane Pitfield, Ontario Liberals On Our Side?

An update on the Chinatown area murder we mentioned yesterday. Her boyfriend has been charged with second-degree murder and police are saying that he did not have to force his way into the apartment building. The Star’s story is here. The Sun gives a few more details and the Post as well.
2006_5_16worldexpo.jpgCity councillors will be debating the 2015 World’s Fair bid today. Council is expected to endorse the bid despite the fact that a $700 million shortfall is expected. If that’s the case we’re wondering where the money is when the TTC, housing advocates and school advocates cry poor and are asking for a fraction of the amount.
The City wants to study the health risks of wi-fi towers which we think is like studying the health effects of alcohol after downing a two-four.
Members of the City’s Homeless Committee, a council-created advisory body, tried to oust co-chair Jane Pitfield yesterday arguing that her anti-panhandling stance go against the interests of Toronto’s underprivileged. Pitfield pointed out that only council can kick her out of her position. The motion was then redrawn as a recommendation to council to remove Councillor Pitfield. We wonder whether a councillor will bring up this motion.
2006_5_16geoff.jpgThe Post asks and answers the question whose side are the McGuinty’s Liberals on? The answer? Yours! Unless you happen to be an anti-nuclear or waterfront powerplant advocate, in which case, shut up you dirty hippie.
Finally, a 25-year old Toronto man (pictured here) is following Torontoist’s lead and using the internet to get laid. A 21-year old “friend” promises to sleep with him if his site can get five million hits in the month of May. Torontoist thinks someone is going to have to keep her promise, the site already has three million hits and our hapless virgin has even got propositions online.
