Toronto’s Tiniest Art Gallery

Though it’s a bit late to make it to the opening, there’s still plenty of time to check out this exhibit, Jennifer Matotek‘s “Suck”, at the Lower Mailbox Gallery. Housed at 12 Beatrice Street (just North of Dundas), the Lower Mailbox Gallery is certainly Toronto’s tiniest art display space.
The LMG is taking proposals, so if you’ve always dreamed of curating a tiny art show, now’s your chance.
The mailbox is 27 cm wide x 12 cm high x 7 cm deep, and exhibits may feature new or previously shown work.

Due to unavoidable security issues, irreplaceable or highly valuable pieces are discouraged — artists must leave work at their own risk. Group projects welcome, but must be willing to share rather confined exhibition space. Difficult individuals need not apply.
Proposals for the 2005-2006 season are being accepted on an ongoing basis.
Please leave concise proposals in upper mailbox at 12 Beatrice Street.
Beatrice will gladly respond to queries at [email protected]
The Lower Mailbox Gallery totally rivals the Lowercase Gallery at Vancouver’s Regional Assembly of Text. They claim their space is small, but it’s really 9′ by 3.5′ There is, however, a satellite gallery project, consisting of the four drawers along the front counter that house art.
Here’s a shot of the drawer in question (right), sadly closed. (from poppytalk)
