Roll Up The Rim Rrrrriggged?

2006_3_15roll.jpgTorontoist is crying in our large double doubles after reading this little piece about Tim Horton’s rabidly popular Roll up The Rim contest on the CBC News site. It turns out that southern Ontario Tim Horton customers have the worst odds of winning the major prizes in Timmy Ho’s contest; one in 11 million versus one in four million in Quebec and one in eight million in BC!

“There are only 30 cars,” Greg Skinner [Tim Horton’s lawyer] said. “If it was all equalized, some places like P.E.I. or New Brunswick might not get one at all. This is just about trying to create some excitement.”

Oh we get it Skinner! Tim Horton’s is taking a page from Ottawa’s books. Those regions are have-not provinces and so wealthier provinces like Ontario have to support them. Careful though, it’s only a matter of time before oil rich provinces start complaining about the fiscal imbalance.
Besides with our smog issue, insurance rates and gas prices, winning a new SUV isn’t exactly the greatest thing. That argument doesn’t hold water when it comes to the other prizes though. Torontoist for one could use a new plasma TV and we’d throw a hell of a party with a $1000!
