Torontoist was distraught to learn that two fatal hit and runs happened over the last couple of days, the 14th and 15th traffic fatalities of the year, respectively.
Number 14 happened on Wednesday night and was the tragic case of a GTA area dad who went outside to help another driver on the side of the road and instead had his car rear-ended. His five year old son would later die from injuries from the crash. Number 15 happened this morning when a 69 year old pedestrian was struck around Bloor and Dundas W.
Torontoist was upset to hear about both incidents and wonders why there haven’t been calls for more serious penalties to reckless drivers and those who fail to remain. A couple of gun deaths was enough to get local politicos wringing their hands. Well we want to point out that so far this year more people have died from cars than guns.
