“…Ianno is completely useless,” writes blogger Andrew Spicer in a recent Torontoist comment. “Why isn’t [a Canadian political scandal] finding its way onto the nation’s political blogs?” asks Siri Agrell in this Maisonneuve article that we’ve referred to more than once. Well, it appears as if both comments have been addressed. Tony Ianno, incumbant Liberal in the federal Trinity-Spadina riding, might not be that useless afterall, and Can-bloggers might not be that ‘pussy.’ It seems that Mr. Ianno and his Liberal braintrust have found a neat way to fundraise, according to blogger Inaki Mondragon. Here’s the gist of the bloggage:
Bypassing Elections Canada, Tony Ianno established a trust fund to pay for his political campaigns. That means anonymous donors have been able to give Ianno unlimited quantities of money under the table. His trust fund has been described in the mainstream press as “sneaky,” “a recipe for corruption,” and “encourag[ing] abuse.” It is entirely lacking in transparency.
Torontoist does not endorse external links nor are we suffer from Harparanoia.
(Another thing that’s kinda neat: Type in “Ianno” in Google News search and you can read about how Mr. Ianno pushed us!)
