Planet Hollywood Closing, Tourists to Brave East Side Mario’s
In a news story that will neither surprise nor sadden anyone, Planet Hollywood, that surreal tourist trap once backed by the likes of Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and the Governator, is closing its Toronto location, which lay tucked conveniently underneath the CN Tower for maximum tacky tourism efficiency (in fact, this may have been a ploy to keep the tourists out of the good part of Toronto…).
Torontoist is sad (well, not really) to say that our only Planet Hollywood experience was in New York City on a camp group trip when we were 14. We couldn’t help but be a little ashamed to be seen there even at that tender age, though we did think that Ferris Bueller’s sweatervest was pretty nifty. In any case, we don’t have much to say about this story – we’re sure an equally appalling tourist trap will fill the space in no time, and we will ignore whatever it turns out to be just as pointedly. Really, we just wanted an excuse to share Arnie’s face on a pumpkin:
You know, we bet if Planet Hollywood had put one of these puppies in the window last Halloween, they would still be going strong.
