Torontoist Eats at the Church Street Diner
When Church Street’s 5-Alarm Diner closed abruptly in August, rumours flew and the neighborhood regulars were heartbroken. Fortunately, the charming brick storefront didn’t stay empty for long, and the neighborhood gained a stellar new breakfast joint in the Church Street Diner. With shiny chrome table tops and cherry red vinyl seats, the design makes a nice nod to nostalgia without going too heavy on the kitsch. And the breakfast deal is great – $6 gets you eggs, bacon or sausage, toast, potatoes, and a bottomless cup of coffee. Our scrambled eggs were nicely seasoned, and a wee bit cheesy, which is just how we like them. The bacon was crispy, and our attentive waiter never stopped pouring us coffee. And, frankly, that’s all we really need.
