Spacing Now in Technicolour
Torontoist’s favourite magazine about the city (sorry Toronto Life) is celebrating the launch of its fifth issue at the Arts and Letters Club this Thursday night (14 Elm St., 8pm, $10 includes a mag). The most exciting development over at Spacing is the fact that the new issue is in glorious colour, which fits the new issue’s theme of public art.
Torontoist got its hands on the new issue at Sunday’s uTOpia book launch and want to give local photoblogger Matt O’Sullivan a hearty pat on the back for making the new issue eye-poppingly gorgeous. Other highlights include John Lorinc’s profile of RC “yes, the water filtration plant is named after me” Harris, one of the most important figures in making Toronto the city that it is today. Also worth reading is Christopher Hume’s essay on the urban ideal and Devon Oostrom’s enlightening flowchart/spectrum/diagram of the many many nuances of public art. The piece looks at the relationship between art, vandalism, legality, and practices like stamping, graffiti, stenciling, stickering and more.
