Torontoist would never encourage you stay home glued to your couch when you could be out doing all manner of fun and edifying things. That last statement is a baldfaced lie. Torontoist has a really cushy couch and a backstock of microwave popcorn that would do any Cold War paranoiac proud and we are not above occasionally camping out on the couch with the popcorn from dinner until bedtime. Now, usually televsion programming is unable to sustain this behaviour and we are forced to fall back on our Sports Night dvd (which, don’t get us wrong, we are always happy to do). Tonight, however, the stars seemed to have aligned in a truly magical way, and there are two excellent reasons for you to stay close to the couch.
1. Stephen Colbert is coming to Canadian television! No longer must we sadly turn away from CTV after The Daily Show‘s tantalizing Colbert teaser only to curl up and cry for the hilarity that we are missing out on. Buzz on The Colbert Report has been good, of course – Colbert was long one of Jon Stewart’s funniest correspondants (just thinking about his eyebrows reduces us to helpless giggles), and we eagerly anticipate a full half-hour of his sharply satirical demeanor. (By the way, has anyone seen that episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent that he appeared on a couple of years ago? We fell a little bit in love with him that night).
2. Baseball is over and Arrested Development is back! After an brief but frustrating (to us) hiatus due to the World Series and Prison Break, Fox’s greatest live-action contribution to television is back. We’ve been really impressed with the series so far this year (and we hope whoever came up with “analrapist” got a huge raise), and since we just finished off the dvd of season 2, we are hurting for a fix.
