Don’t Bring Your Guns to Town?
If we have to post one more picture of a gun…Jeez. Well, given there’s been no update on the ‘national gun crisis’ in a while, let’s check up on the issue with a few links.
– A pastor calls for the War Measures Act to find the gunman from the funeral shooting. Too late though, city councilor Michael Thompson already came up with that idea. Lame-city.
– The CBC’s Mary Weins talks to a Jane-Finch rapper, discusses blunts. Was that blunts? Or unfair media representation?
– According to police, a man was shot for not having any cigarettes. Also according to police, officers should be allowed to brandish weapons at peaceful ralleys.
– Dork University’s Dr. Frances Henry and Carol Tator concluded the the press create a sense of “moral panic” in which “isolated incidents of violence are represented as an indication of a profound social crisis that imperils the nation.” But that was in 1997.
– Canadian Association of Black Journalists: “These incidents of violence and loss of life threaten all of us . This is not just a Black issue. It is one for all of Canadian society, and we must respond to it as a Canadian issue, rather than trying to duck responsibility by making it only a Black issue.”
– Prime Martin is having a 40-minute meeting with community groups re: gun violence solutions.
– Has anyone suggested banning guns within city limits?
