Funds for the Royal Rat Coffers
Maggie MacDonald is a busy woman. As one of the most visible members of the Hidden Cameras, MacDonald is often seen on Toronto’s stages bopping along to Joel Gibb’s catchy anthems to enemas, fear of commitment and golden showers. MacDonald also plays in a number of other bands in the city including the Dating Service and Republic of Safety. So it’s not like she needs another project on her plate.
So Torontoist was pretty surprised to hear that Maggie is working on a novel (soon to be published by McGilligan) and a play. Torontoist caught a glimpse of her new play a couple of months back. The Rat King, is a post-apocalyptic indie-rock opera of love and loneliness, with some truly haunting moments.
Sadly putting on a play can get expensive which is why MacDonald is holding a fundraiser tommorow night at Sneaky Dees, 9:30pm ($7). On the bill are Bob Wiseman, the Phonemes (pictured above), Sheila Heti, the Republic of Safety and a few other acts.
