Comedy Review Debut: Alt dot Comedy

altdotcomedylounge.gifWhat do we know from funny? Nothing, and so TOist contributor and Humber comedy student Nathan has selflessly volunteered to trudge through the yuk, and report his funny findings to Torontoist. He’ll review comedy, and sometimes make funny himself. First up, a Queen Street staple…office supplies doing comedy now that would be funny:
In the wake of TIFF, TOist was craving some off-the-rebound entertainment, which we found at the Rivoli’s Alt dot Comedy showcase. Every Monday in its cabaret-lounge like atmosphere the Rivoli hosts a comedy night featuring some of Toronto’s funniest professional and up-and-coming comedians. The weekly event is sponsored by the Comedy Network and encourages comedians to perform “unconventional” material. (Ergo the ‘Alt’ in ‘Alt.Comedy’ — stands for ‘alternative’). Also, don’t be surprised if a big name comic drops in to do a set; according to regulars, this is the norm. All in all, the TOist was treated to a laugh smothered two hour evening of comedy for only $5. Good value? We say: “Ya.”
The Rivoli is located at 334 Queen St. West (near Spadina). Show starts at 9.
