Torontoist loves chicken sandwiches! Moist chicken sandwiches. Soft chicken sandwiches. Combined with airy bread and plenty o’mayonnaise, what’s not to love? It is of our supreme Torontoist opinion that That Chicken Place on Queen Street West Past Bathurst has one of the best Portuguese-style chicken sandwiches in town. We guess, because Torontoist doesn’t know that many other Portuguese chicken sandwich places…You know that chicken place – the one with the sign that says ‘Warning: You May Order More than Just One!’ or something to that effect. That place with the chickens rolling around in the rotisserie in the window. That chicken place just down the street from side Romni Wools and Comrags. The chicken place is on the north side. You know the one. TOist doesn’t need to tell you which.
Anyway, the sandwiches are damn good. Cheap, too – under $5 (approx. $3.99 or thereabouts), with soft and fluffy Portuguese bread, mayonnaise, some pickles, and some homemade hot sauce (it isn’t *that* hot, but it’s still better than nothin’). The chicken is deliciously seasoned, and presented in toothsome chunks (not chopped to tiny bits as in some places). Go grade-school and grab a drink box and sit in one of the booths for a lazy afternoon snack, or get a handheld to go for a walk down the Queen West stretch, munching as you browse. Three words: Cheap. Good. Go.
