Amato’s is relatively thin crust, fresh-made and authentic napolitano. Notice the emphasis on the word ‘relative.’ By expanding to the Yonge-Eglinton area, along the College strip, down Queen Street, at Yonge and Dundas and who knows where else, Amato’s has all but nullified the need for the puke orange-coloured Pizza Pizza “restaurants.” Slices are ecclectic and well-rounded, as opposed to tasting like a wad of dough. Amato’s are can be clearly defined on your palette; whereas at Pizza Pizza, the tomatos taste like the pepporoni or vice versa. Alas, Amato’s can only win in comparison to other chains. A little work on the crusts, a bit fuller tasting cheese, maybe some more ingenuity in the topping combinations, and Amato’s could have convenience and the best tasting pizza. Until then, they’ve got number four locked down with decent pizza just around the block.
