Animals Have Rights Too, You Know

Proof positive that Toronto is one of more animal rights conscience cities in North America, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will host a two-day conference here in October. One of only three planned conferences, the Helping Animals 101 conference will focus on how to improve your local animal shelter, speaking out for animals, and starting your own group. The PETA people have outlined the Toronto affair as follows:

At the conference, you will join members from all over your community to hear presentations on topics such as how to improve your local animal shelter, speaking out for animals, and starting your own group. After the completion of the conference, you will be able to confidently write letters to the editor, stage a demonstration, and debate animal rights with your friends and the media alike. We will also show you how good vegan food can taste by preparing your favorite comfort foods, like faux fried chicken. And every attendee will also receive a goody bag full of our favorite cruelty-free products.

Faux fried chicken? Nothing wrong with that. Alas, PETA founder and international activist Ingrid Newkirk will not be joining the Toronto leg of the tour. Occurs on October 8-9, for 129$, or students for 35$. Sign up before the 15th of this month and get a pal in for half price.
