Streeter: Abstract Art! Now!
The AGO is vexing enough these days, what with construction and tourists and overenunciating docents telling you which way is up and how to do your hair. So consider our frustration already at peak level when we made the acquaintance of ‘Abstract Art’ guy on Sunday. Everywhere we went, we could hear his brutish voice bellowing at a docent nearby. It all went something like this.
In the lobby.
AA guy: Where’s the abstract art?
Docent: Oh you mean the colour field show?
AA guy: Yeah, sure, just the abstract art, which way?
Docent: Just upstairs.
AA guy: So the ABSTRACT ART is upstairs?
Docent: That is correct.
Upstairs, standing in front of the colour field show.
AA guy:Yeah, is this the abstract art?
Docent: Um, yes.
AA guy: So is it abstract art by Canadians or Americans or what?
Docent: I believe it’s a mix.
AA guy: So lemme ask you a question, where is this Royal Museum of Ontario, because after this I want to see some real old Canadian stuff.
Docent: It’s on Bloor.
AA guy: Okay, but this is the abstract art here?
