Pie R Round

According to the usually infallible Wikipedia, today is Pi Approximation Day in these parts, because the date is written as 22/7, which works out to an approximation of pi (the irrational number, not the much-revered dessert). Now, many a math purist may tell you why this holiday is flawed, but we are firm believers in milking every excuse to eat pie for all it’s worth, and no pooh-poohing PhD is going to rain on our parade.
cherrypie.jpeg Fortunately, we live in a city where a quality pie is readily available. Torontoist is constantly singing the praises of Madeleine’s Cherry Pie and Ice Cream (and rightly so), but we mustn’t forget about that charming Yorkville standby Wanda’s Pie in the Sky. Wanda’s is as adorable as ever, with it’s twinkly little lights in the navy night sky-coloured ceiling. When weather permits, the huge front window rolls up, turning the whole of the tiny shop into a patio. Those lucky enough to snag a seat often linger for ages, savouring some of the best pie in the city. We’re partial to peach praline, though we never scoff at lemon merengue. But what’s Pi Approximation Day for if not excess and indulgence?
