“It’s lucrative to sell our kids junk”

education3.gifCouncillor Joe Mihevic was among the voices of protest against an 18-10 Coucil decision to give Pepsi an exclusive contract with the Toronto Parks and Recreation facilities on Thursday. Despite the fact that the Toronto Youth Cabinet argued against the deal, in which Council requests that 50% of all beverages sold will be healthy, the councillors in favour say that the City needs money. Councillor Gloria Lindsay-Luby wants people to know that “money doesn’t just fall from heaven.”
TOist gratefully acknowledges Councillor Lindsay-Luby’s efforts to educate the public about where money comes from, but we think the agreement is a bum deal all the same. $1.35 million plus 30% of profits is but a paltry exchange for damage done by park machines full of cola. Plus, where’s the chocolate milk?
